Search and Rescue during a Pandemic
As the COVID-19 pandemic puts extra pressure on emergency resources across the province, Rovers Search and Rescue (Rovers SAR) are appealing to the public to take extra caution if heading into the outdoors, not just to maintain physical distance but also to be prepared so you don’t get lost or injured.
Rovers SAR volunteers respond to calls to help those in need. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the risks these volunteers and other personnel take is increased as there is a risk of virus transmission during a call. By you taking extra precautions, you help reduce the risk to search and rescue volunteers and other essential front-line workers.
Below are things you might want to consider before you head into the outdoors during this COVID-19 pandemic:
-
- Your favourite park or hiking/walking trail may not be assessable. The current situation is complicated and changing almost on a daily basis. Parks and other popular high-use areas maybe closed, have limited capacity or have hiking/walking restrictions.
- Maintain physical distancing while outside: Physical distancing will help prevent transmission of COVID-19, even outdoors. Please try to stay to yourself or within your safety bubble. Remember, maintain 2 meters of distance and keep in mind: people, space, time, and place.
